Welcome to UK Citizens
Band Radio, a place to read about various aspects of
Citizen's Band Radio in the UK. There are articles on
getting started in hobby radio, information on new equipment,
from radios to coax and also a look at the radios that
started it all. If you are coming back to CB after a
time away then there are some interesting changes to
the hobby. It is now license free and we have multi-channel
radios although sadly still no SSB, (see the news section
for more information.) Even though the multi channel
radios have hundreds of channels available on them only
80 FM channels at 4 watts output are for use in the
UK. If you are thinking of getting into CB radio then
check out the Getting started section on the About
CB page as it discuses everything you
need. Highstreet shops selling CB radio equipment are
few and far between today however many of the original
radio shops are still going and making good use of the
Internet. Check out the links page for details.
Whatever
happened to Citizen's Band Radio?
Just as with the likely lads some of
us were left wondering whatever happened to UK CB radio?
After exploding onto the UK scene it peaked and then
slowly went down hill. For many it was spoiled by those
who abused it. Then with the arrival of new technologies
such as the Internet and mobile phones, Citizen's Band
Radio took a bit of a back seat. Sure there continued
to be a diehard fan base but the glory days seemed long
gone. However CB is still out there plodding along and
many are having a lot of fun with it. With new multi
band CB radios coming thick and thin things are looking
up and hopefully this will continue. As someone who
has recently returned to CB I thought I'd stick a site
together talking about this underrated hobby. I will
keep it simple as that way I know what I'm talking about!
:-)
Have a look around the site. There are
pages were you can comment on your CB radio gear. I've
put together a links page where you can see lists of
online CB radio shops selling all the radios, aerials
and accessories you need. Many of the old classic names
are still around such as Midland, Danita, President
and more.
The
site is focused on CB radio but see the links section
for other hobby radio sites.
